Leg Bands are an important piece of "jewelry" on any bird. Leg bands are means of identification. All cockatiels bred by me have bands that have 'MAX' a sideways 'BC' and then each have a consecutive number. If a bird flies away, gets lost, or stolen, and somebody finds it, they may be able to identify it and reach the owner by the information on the band. Some leg bands show the hatch year. MAX Cockatiels bands do not show the hatch year.

I will always band my chicks. I purchase ALUMINUM CLOSED bands from L&M Bird Leg Bands. They are a very reliable source and sell other supplies as well.

As I was saying about leg bands providing important information, there are a few websites that are dedicated to re-uniting lost birds with their owners.
